How To Install WordPress On Your Cloud59 Hosting Account

If you wish to install the WordPress CMS (Content Management System) on your Cloud59 hosting account, then please follow this video tutorial.

  • You will need to setup a MySQL Database.
  • You will then configure your FTP client, in order to transfer files from your computer to the hosting server.
  • You will then transfer the latest release of WordPress, as the uncompressed WordPress files, not as a single .ZIP, .GZIP, or .TAR file, to the server with your FTP client.
  • Next you will create a ‘wp-config.php’ file, or simply rename the sample file ‘wp-config-sample.php’ to ‘wp-config.php’, and add your MySQL database login and host information. You will also add the WordPress security keys (see information here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php). You can use this Security Key link to obtain your unique keys here: https://api.wordpress.org/secret-key/1.1/salt/
  • Finally you will go to your website, or your website’s testing link if the DNS servers have not yet been redirected from your domain registrar. You will now see the WordPress configuration menu, where you can add a site title and administrator login.
  • You can now either login to manage your WordPress website at http://www.yourwebsite.com/wp-login.php, or simply directly view your site.

This short tutorial video, steps you through the process of configuring your MySQL database, your FTP client, through to transferring the necessary files, and configuring WordPress so that you have a fully functioning website. This should take 10-15 minutes. We prefer this method to a ’1 click install’ since you will always have the very latest WordPress version to protect against hacks and vulnerabilities. You will also develop the basic skills to better manage your website.
